| Here's
the summer perspective!!!
Date the UK with members
in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Cardiff...to
name but a few major UK metropolitan areas, is well placed to find out
what the average British single person is looking for from online dating
in the UK.
SINGLE BRITS GIVE UP ON HOLIDAY ROMANCES
And ‘On-Line Love Barometer’ Links
Matchmaking to Heatwave
Single men and women nationwide are turning their
backs on hit & miss holiday romances – and are desperately seeking
mates beforehand for their summer holidays. In a survey run on www.datetheuk.com
by Date the UK, the country’s hottest interactive dating site, 91
per cent of respondents (and four in five women) said they’d had
drunken one night stands on holiday and regretted it afterwards. This
rose to 95 per cent in Scotland.
Sensible singletons it seems, want to avoid the
aggro of pulling a promiscuous Juan or a potentially man-eating Maria
– and instead enjoy a loved-up summer with someone they already
know and have fun with. 84 per cent said they’d rather be with a
steady partner, while 73 per cent of 25-34 year olds preferred to be with
a lover than a bunch of friends.
And they clearly equate hot weather with lurve.
During the recent heat wave, Date the UK’s data consistently showed
that as soon as the sun went down, singles rushed to their computers to
log on and find a mate. And when the temperature rose to a high of 29
degrees, numbers of would-be daters the next day trebled over normal traffic
levels – with membership sign-up rocketing by 40% per cent.
Fiona Maclean, co-founder of Date the UK commented:
“Internet dating is becoming more and more popular – it is
ideal for those who are looking for like-minded people while sitting at
home. But we were amazed to see the Shirley Valentine character is such
a dying breed - and that people would rather play it safe these days by
choosing their perfect partner at the same time as booking their holiday!”
She continued: “Since the site was first
launched last September, we’ve had some great success stories and
there are even some marriages on the cards, so our members are obviously
doing the right thing!”
With today’s hectic lifestyles more and more
people are turning to Internet dating sites to find that special someone.
There are now an estimated 56 dating sites in the UK, but literally thousands
worldwide.
In the US last year consumers spent an estimated
$302 million on online dating sites and forecasts for this year estimate
that the UK is not far behind on a per capita basis.
Date the UK’s survey also revealed that 50%
of survey respondents initially look for a great personality in their
perfect partner with only 20% seeking good looks, which makes them perfect
for Internet dating where initial contact is based on emails and virtual
flirting! Just 1% of women owned up to looking for a sizeable wallet when
finding a new partner, and a mere 2% of men basing their decision on chest
size!
It’s good to know that even in these days
of modern technology, old fashioned romance still exists. 40% stayed in
the holiday mood and named a walk on the beach as their perfect date and
a quarter favoured a candle-lit dinner at home. An amorous 40% stated
the ideal place to make love would be in front of a roaring log fire while
a cheeky 1% believe the ideal place for seduction is the back seat of
a car!
The survey, which questioned over 1,000 men and
women found 76% of people join dating websites for new relationships,
with a surprisingly low 4% seeking someone for sex. On average Date the
UK members spend approx 30 minutes on the site every day chatting and
flirting with potential dates (there are up to 500 on-line at any one
time) and it has over 50,000 members.
Unlike other online dating services, Date
the UK has been created in the UK exclusively for people living in
this country, so there’s no danger of falling for someone who lives
on the other side of the world.
