Online Dating Profiles
Your profile on any online dating site is your advertisement to any potential
new partners. So, it is vital that you make it accurate, interesting and comprehensive.
A lot of people will find it difficult to be positive and encouraging about
themselves...and even more difficult to write something to help them stand out
from the crowd. So here are some tips to help you write the best possible profile
for yourself...and hopefully find that dream date online
A profile to find the perfect match
Tell people about yourself. What do you like...what do you hate. If you really
don't want your next partner to smoke or drink...then say so. If you have any
particular passions or hobbies...then now is the time to explain a little about
them. Perhaps it is important to you that your future dates like children or
animals - if that is the case, then say so.
Many sites will have a series of options for you to choose from. Do fill all
the sections in. Even if you think it is irrelevent what magazines you read
or what sport you enjoy...it helps other people find things in common to chat
with you about.
Tell people of places you have been where you have had a great time...talk
about your ideal date...try to give an insight into your values and the way
you live your life.
How much to write
We recommend spending around 20 minutes writing your profile. If you find it
easier, make a few notes beforehand. And remember all sites allow you to edit
what you have written afterwards...so you can always improve things as you go
on.
What to leave out
Whatever your sexual preferences, now is not the time to tell everyone. Think
of the sort of things you would talk about when you first met someone in a Bar
or at a Party...and stick to that type of information.
Don't talk about your past relationships. It is important to be positive -
even if you don't feel that way at the time you are writing your profile.
Don't use txtmssg shorthand and do check your spelling. Sometimes when you
are writing online, it can be difficult to notice mistakes, so, why not write
any free text sections in word and then use a spell checker!
Be Honest
Remember, the point is to meet someone you will get on with. Lying will get
you nowhere as you will be found out sooner rather than later and it will lose
you any chance of a relationship or friendship at the same time.
