Online dating and personals work best when you complete your profile and post
a picture. But, what sort of picture works...and why?
Remember that your objective in using any online dating service is eventually
to meet people in real life. Whether you are the sort of person who wants to
find a lot of dates quickly or whether you are looking to get to know people
online before you commit to meeting face to face. So, make sure your picture
DOES look like you. Of course you want to look at your best, but posting a very
old photograph or one that shows you so far in the distance that the man or
woman of your dreams can't make you out is probably not a great idea. If in
doubt, ask a friend...
If, like many of us, you hate having your photo taken, borrow a digital camera,
use the timer and take a lot of shots until you are happy with the result.
Many online dating sites will let you keep your photo for friends only...so,
if you prefer to keep your identity confidential until you know someone, you
can do that as well.
Do remember that you want people to be able to see your picture through an
internet connection. So, keep the file size small and follow the guidelines
of the site you are using. Some will ask you to crop the picture to a specific
size or to only submit JPGs.
Most dating sites find that profiles with pictures get around 8 times the number
of responses...and get viewed 20 or 30 times as often as those without photos.
So...to make the most of your membership get your camera out!
